Remembering Carl Williams

By admin • May 31st, 2009

I was very saddened to hear of the passing Carl Williams. Carl was a unique individual who has done a lot for our industry and especially CFI. I have nothing but positive thoughts when reflecting about him. He was always very welcoming. Carl always had a smile on his face and tried to find humor in everything, and when he could would make a joke of it. I do not recall when I first met Carl, it may have been in the late 1970′s. However I do recall that he was always trying to get people involved in CCI (CFI’s old name). He was the one the who “persuaded” me to run for the board of directors in 1983. It was an experience I am glad I had. I always enjoyed attending any “West & Williams” courses that Carl and Mike West put on. Carl would often add humorous comments and jokes to keep learning more eventful. Carl had special ways of keeping attendees attention, such as for the poor soles that were having a hard time keeping their eyes open, he would pour them a cup of coffee and bring it to them, making sure the rest of the class knew that they was dozing off. Carl made learning a lot more fun. He will be greatly missed.

I remember our first meeting at Prochem AZ in 1977 when three “spark plugs” from Calif ..Dick Mapleston (sp), Mike West & Carl Williams gave a energized presentation of what CCI was all about. We were one of the first 10 to join. Even though I am retired but still attended some conventions, Carl always greated me with a strong handshake & arm around my back. Yes, he will be missed.

Our deepest sympathy to his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with him & his family and friends.
The memory will forever be with us. His greatest joy was making others happy. Zaim.

The service was very touching. By my count over 150 were present. Truly sad to loose such a brilliant industry leader. Carl was a mentor to me, and although we had our ups and downs, I’m glad in the end we were friends. I will never forget him, and I will miss his sense of humor and warm heart.
